Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Provide a diagnostic assessment as a pre-assessment to target areas/skill deficits the student needs remedial instruction. One to one conference/meeting will be scheduled with the student to review the areas the student needs remedial instruction along with developing an individualized academic plan to help the student work on skill deficits from their proximal level of learning to current grade level. This data will be beneficial in helping to better inform my instruction, differentiate instruction, and prepare and assign skills based work based on the student's diagnostic assessment results along with feedback from the student and/or his parents. At the end of the session, a post assessment will be given to measure the student's progress on the areas presented as skill deficits. A one to one conference will be scheduled with the student to discuss his or her progress. Parents will be notified on a weekly report about their child's progress.

How did you get started teaching?
I am open-minded to diverse learning, compassionate and most of all, patient. My teaching experience has been a rewarding experience. I have a broad range of teaching experience with non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds. I worked at Alutiiq Education & Training at Westover Job Corps for 3 years as an Academic Instructor/Mathematics Instructor, Putnam Vocational Technical Academy as a long-term Graphic Design/ Multimedia Instructor and at Kennedy Middle School as a Zone Substitute Teacher and as a long term 6th grade Earth Science Teacher during the 2012-2013 school year. I also worked as a Zone Substitute Teacher at Zanetti Montessori School during the 2011-2012 school year with Pre-K-8th grade students and I accepted long term assignments. From January-April of 2011, I worked in a long-term position as a SPED Pullout teacher for grades 1 and 2 at a co-teacher capacity at Boland Elementary School in Springfield, Massachusetts. I provided remedial instruction in ELA as small group instruction during centers which focused on word work and reading comprehension skills and small group instruction in Math.
In addition, I also extended my teaching experience at Van Sickle Middle school as a SPED Teacher Assistant to students of moderate special needs under minimal supervision. I covered and led instruction of the subjects Math, Science, Reading, Language Arts, and Social Studies, prepared and implemented lessons, and taught the students how to utilize assistive technology products essential to motivating and engaging them in their academic subjects. As a Paraprofessional Instructional/Substitute Instructor at the Hampshire Educational Collaborative, I assisted with instruction of students of moderate to severe special needs in smaller classes with a team of instructors at middle to high school level, worked with implementing IEPs, accommodations, and assistive technology for students, and engaged proactively with teachers at weekly meetings. At Commerce High School, I worked at the capacity of a co-teacher as a Paraprofessional-Special Education Support in inclusion classrooms for the subjects Chemistry, Biology and Physical Science, covered for classroom coverage, and administered MCAS tests.
