About

I love teaching math! That moment when a student who was confused finally has that "ah-ha!" moment is my favorite moment every day in my classroom. Feeling comfortable with math gives all students a chance to analyze and understand the world around them and confidently solve their way through complex issues. I have worked in some capacity with kids (both during the school year and at summer camps for over 7 years) and there is nothing more rewarding then helping someone grow and become confident in their own abilities. I have been teaching for 5 years and I have had state test pass rates above 95% for each year I have taught. I have taught in Miami and Brooklyn and I have studied different methods of pedagogy as well as different curriculum implementation styles.

Frequently asked questions

Typically we start by meeting to get to know one another and so that I can see where the student is currently at. This helps me understand the students goals and what they would like to get out of tutoring. Additionally I like to look at current classwork, any organizational method (like a planner) and meet their parents or guardians to get a better idea of what would be most helpful for each separate student I work with.

I have a Masters in the Art of Teaching Secondary Math. I have been a teacher for five years throughout which I have taught Algebra 1, Intensive Math and AP Calculus. I have tutored students in those subjects as well as Pre-Algebra, Algebra 2, ACT/SAT math and Geometry.

Typically I charge $100 an hour which sometimes changes based on the topic that I am teaching or that I will pro-rate based on how much time we actually spend together. (ACT/SAT tutoring would be a little more)

I did a program called Teach for America which placed me in a high school math classroom in Miami and I have loved teaching math ever since.

I have worked with a wide range of students who have varied in age and socioeconomic status. Additionally I have worked with students who have specifiic learning needs or challenges.

I am currently obtaining a Masters in Education Policy and Management at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

I would tell that student it is important to find someone they are comfortable with and who can help them enjoy learning about math. All people can be math people, you just need to find a teacher who can help you find the math person hiding behind it all.

Students should think about what is really inhibiting them from being their best student selves and think about the direct relationship between certain actions/experiences and the actual impact that it had. They should find a way to pinpoint what is hurting them or confusing them most in class and then talk to a teacher about the way through it. It is important to always have an open mind and be willing to learn but also to stand up for what you need!
