I feel it is important to connect with the student I'm tutoring in order to build a rapport with them. Being comfortable with your tutor is vital to the success of the service and I know from personal experience. Throughout my schooling career I reached out to tutors and I always worked best with tutors I connected with and trusted.
I enjoy helping the student understand and feel more confident in their abilities. School can be difficult at times with pressure from friends, teachers and parents. Having confidence in your abilities is important and being able to help build that confidence brings me so much joy!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I first get to know a little bit about them- what they do in their free time, what activities they are involved in, etc. Then I will ask them what they personally feel they struggle with most and start working on targeting that aspect. Throughout tutoring, I might notice another area they might struggle in and so we start to slowly build upon that skill set. I can work with school assignments or assigning small projects the student can work on that target a specific skill set.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelors in Hospitality and Event Management from Endicott College but while my degree did not focus on writing specifically, I took numerous courses that were writing heavy. This included creative writing, thesis, research strategies, and many more. One of the main parts of my job at the moment is being able to communicate efficiently and writing is vital in this. I also enjoy writing in my free time as a hobby whether it's poetry or journaling.
