Alyssa Kraft Tutoring
About
Over the past ten years I have worked as a Special education teacher across different grade levels. I have developed ways to allow my stundents to grasp some of the most difficult concepts in a simplistic way. I believe in hands on teaching and getting to know my students and how they learn best. As a teacher it is difficult to prepare lessons and create ways for all students to feel successful in the classroom. I feel as a tutor it is my job to create an environment for the students to feel successful and heard, and to listen to what works best for the way in which they like to learn.
I hold a bachelors degree in Elementary/Special Education which I received through Providence College. I am dual certified in both elementary and special education through 8th grade.
Figuring out different ways to present information to my students and help solve their problems has been the most reqarding piece to my job. Being able to work one on one with students provides me with a better way to get to know a students style of learning and being able to apply that knowledge to my tutoring seesions.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student it is important to first get to know them as a learner. I like to have a converstation with them about school, what they like about it and what they do not like about it. I like to talk to them about what is most difficult for them and what they feel would make them perform better in the classroom or on a test. I like to make sure I understand the student and their feelings about school before deciding on an apporoach to how I tutor them. For each student the approach will be different as each student learns differently. For classroom teachers it is difficult at times to cater to all the different types of learners in his/her classroom, as a tutor I have the ability to create lessons around the type of learner the individual is.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
