Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to get to know new students by asking them some questions about their background, what their favorite English topics are, and how they learn the best. In the college classes I've taught, I have students write a diagnostic essay to determine their writing strengths and weaknesses.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Master's degree in English and Creative Writing. I taught four semesters of English research writing and English Composition at two different colleges in New York State. I have worked with a variety of students in all grades and of all ability levels for over 15 years. I have published multiple works of poetry and short stories over a decade.
How did you get started teaching?
I started in education as a kindergarten teacher in 1999, at Kindercare, then worked my way up to teacher assistant at various special education programs, until I became a substitute teacher, and then an adjunct professor.
