About
I offer private tutoring in reading, writing, and math in my home with customized lessons focused on the needs of each student seeking either remediation or enrichment. The focus is on instilling confidence by providing successful, but challenging hands-on learning experiences. I have 34+ years experience in teaching and still work part-time in a neighboring town. I am a certfied elementary teacher with a Master's Degree in Special Education who enjoys helping students to succeed. The smile of success is my reward!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Parents of K-8 students usually call or email me for more information then bring the student to my home for an informal interview to get to know me before starting tutoring. Students usually come by themselves after that. For those who feel more comfortable in a public place, I am able to arrange tutoring in the nearby public library. References, of course, can be supplied for those who request them. Since I still teach part-time, I have multiple background checks for references as well.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have extensive training and experience with a hands-on, visual approach to teaching math with the emphasis of de-mystifying the sometimes complicated language of math. I am familiar with most math programs and use Eureka (Engage NY) most often teaching to the Common Core Standards. My training and experience with reading and ELA include Fundations, the Wilson Reading System, Orton Gillingham, Project Read Reading A to Z, SRSD, Response to Literature, and Readers/Writers Workshop to name a few.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My fees are $55. per hour discounted to $50. per hour if multiple hours in one week are requested or if there are multiple children in a family who require tutoring.
