Jewel Beth Davis, Professor, PSAT/SAT/GRE TUTOR, English
About
I trained with the Princeton Review for PSAT/SAT and GRE Prep. I worked with them as a Master Tutor for 5.5 years. Since then, for five years, I've tutored privately in the NH Seacoast area. I am trained in SAT and GRE Verbal, Math and Writing. I have an MFA in Writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts, an MA in Theater and Movement from Wesleyan University (Summa cum laude) and a BA in Theater from University of New Hampshire (Magna cum laude). I really enjoy working with junior high, high school, and college students to make test prep fun and effective. Presently, I teach writing, communication, and drama full time at NHTI-Concord Community College. I'm also a professional writer with many published pieces. With tests, my students always improve at least 100 points on their overall score if they spend 4 weeks per subject. I have a website, www.jewelbethdavis.com, and profiles on LinkedIn and Facebook.
I love to see my students grow in confidence and feel better about themselves and when they do, I am proud I had a part in that and it makes me very happy. I have profiles on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and my website, www.jewelbethdavis.com. I started tutoring in about 2002 and have been tutoring off and on since then. I was a Master Tutor when I worked with the Princeton Review.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I can definitely be of help to her or him by going over grammar exercises, correcting essays she writes for school, and using PSAT/SAT or GRE booklets to practice the Reading/Writing questions. For the PSAT/SAT, and GRE, the most important thing will be the advanced vocabulary and understanding the words in context. For academic writing, the focus will be on the thesis, the five point essay and the conclusion.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I was in Advanced Placement classes from 5th grade through high school. I gave the speech at my high school graduation. I have a four year undergraduate degree from the University of New Hampshire. I have an MA from Wesleyan University and a Master of Fine Arts in Writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts. I've spent nine years teaching academic and creative writing at NHTI in Concord NH and I was trained by the Princeton Review to tutor the PSAT/SAT and GRE. I also worked successfully with many students assisting them in writing their college essays.
