The IV League
About
Our tutors are all currently students at Harvard University whose specialties are their respective concentrations. We meet our students in Harvard Square and employ a hands on learning process, wherein the tutor and student develop an interpersonal connection. This connection allows for more efficacious tutoring and allows students to understand the material more easily. Further, we employ a Socratic teaching method to spark curiosity and genuine interest in the subject at hand. Our teaching philosophy is best summarized by the words of Educational Philosopher Thomas Carruthers: "A teacher is one who makes himself progressively unnecessary."
Though we work primarily with high school students, we love to help students of all ages and grade levels succeed. To us, nothing is more important than the student's objectives. Because we are often so close in age to our tutees, we understand what they're dealing with and can offer our insight.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student, we make sure that we learn how that student learns. This is what separates us from most other companies. Rather than having a set curriculum, we adapt to each student's needs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Our Executive Director and Founder, Joshua Yee, has over five years of work experience in education. In addition, he was selected as one of the Top 100 Students Nationwide. With his expertise, he serves as lead mentor and tutor, but all other tutors hold mastery over the subjects they tutor.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
We recognize that the learning objectives and timelines may be different for each student. For this reason, we do not have a standard pricing system. More often than not, however, parents and students alike tend to agree that the purchase of a package of hours is more suited to the student's learning needs.
How did you get started teaching?
We started peer tutoring, then we decided that helping others was a passion. We love seeing other students succeed!
What types of students have you worked with?
Collectively, we've worked with students at every level of their education from elementary school to college. However, most of our students are high school students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
There is nothing that brings more satisfaction to us than when a student can apply concepts that he or she learned with us. One recent example of this was of Matthew, who has had a troubled family history, creating a college essay that got him into his top choice school.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would tell that student to try a session with that teacher to get an understanding of their compatibility. That way, the student gets to understand whether the teaching style is compatible with him or herself.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should think about what their goals are and how having a tutor would help them achieve those goals.
