Hello there! Thank you for visiting my page!
I am a licensed (MA) high school math teacher with a Master's Degree in Secondary Mathematics Education. I have 4 years of teaching experience and 9 years of tutoring experience.
I have tutored students ranging from ages 8 to 22. I am currently finishing the school year using a distance learning model (so I have plenty of experience working remotely).
I received my Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from Oberlin College, and my Masters from Boston University.
I LOVE talking math with students, my favorite part is when I see the gears in my students' heads turn. I live for that moment when math finally clicks for someone I am helping.
I am a fun loving teacher. I keep math interesting and tell corny math jokes during sessions. After almost every session I hear, "Oh, was that it?" because I offer a warm and engaging atmosphere that time seems to fly by (no more staring at the clock during math time!)
I look forward to working with you soon!
I recently arranged for Sam to tutor my high school daughter for several weeks, and I would highly recommend him to any parent seeking tutoring services! He came to our home, always arriving promptly and ready to work, and he was flexible with his schedule. He has a respectful and engaging personality which seemed to immediately put my daughter at ease. His genuine caring makes a world of difference, as I could tell my child was more willing to really dig into the material. At times in the past she's been reluctant to ask questions or to admit when she was feeling "lost," so finding a tutor who could make a connection was really key! He works efficiently and was able to keep her focused and on track throughout the sessions. He tutored her in trigonometry and pre-calculus, and he was very knowledgeable in both. He was quite willing to research and plan ahead to show her some lessons and alternate strategies. Whatever he did, it worked, as she bounced back to do well in the class. She said he was without a doubt the best tutor she'd ever encountered. I could never have helped her with the subject material, and while her father loves math, we've all agreed that there is just too much frustration involved whenever he tries to help her with school work! Hiring Sam as a tutor was money well spent! I won't hesitate to seek him out again if we ever have the need.
Sam has been working with my daughter for the past several months, and it has been an extremely positive experience. My daughter has a specific learning disability in math, and has a history of anxiety related to the subject. Sam’s supportive approach has put her at ease, while building her confidence through appropriate level work, and clear, easy to understand explanations. I would highly recommend Sam, both for his tutoring acumen, as well as his personable disposition.
