My son is now in 5th grade. He has always loved math, but he feels that the math at his school is not challenge enough. We were very lucky to find Rachel on Tutor.com. She is very communicative and dedicated in her teaching. Being a school teacher, we can see that she is also very professional. My son has been taking math lessons with her for a few months now, and he is very happy to his progress. We highly recommend her if you are also looking for a math tutor.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First students will complete a short assessment based on their current grade level to establish a benchmark. From there we will work on math topics that the student struggles with in an effort to increase their understanding.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
MA teaching license in elementary education grades 1-6 and middle school mathematics grades 5-8. I am currently pursuing my master's degree in special education at Bridgewater State University and will be licensed to teach special education in MA for grades K-8.
How did you get started teaching?
After graduating from Assumption College with my bachelors in elementary education and mathematics I started 4th and 5th grade at a private school for two years. I then moved and began teaching 6th grade mathematics at a public middle school for two years. I then changed roles and have been a math interventionist for 6th and 7th grade students for two years.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with both regular education students and students that specifically struggle with mathematics and need interventions to achieve success with grade level work. I have worked with students that have special education plans, 504 plans, and students whose first language is not English.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently just had my first child and have decided to take the year off from teaching full time to be a stay-at-home mom.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Students should have an open mind about mathematics and be willing to learn. I do my best to make math fun and include lots of games and activities in my teaching.
