Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
That is up to the student and whatever is pressing - we can work on homework, review, get ahead, study. Every student is different, as is every course, so unfortunately/fortunately there is not a cookie-cutter answer for this.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a B.S. and M.S. in mathematics, and I am a Ph.D. candidate in mathematics. I have complete 11 hours of secondary education (mathematics) from Tulane. I have taught in LA, AL , TX, and in the Dominican Republic at the high school level and college level.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$60/hour:
- Minimum 1 hour, then I charge by every quarter (15 minutes)
50% Cancellation/No Show Fee:
- Please cancel at least 2 hours before your scheduled session to avoid this fee
How did you get started teaching?
I have always loved teaching - I used to teach my brother's stuffed animals when I was 5 yo. I started tutoring in 1994, and I started teaching in 2007 at De La Salle.
What types of students have you worked with?
My students have been every age from 2nd grade - college level. I have worked with AP students and students that struggle with ADHD, dyslexia, and test anxiety.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Think about what you are struggling with - do you struggle to understand the material, do you struggle with studying (putting all the information together), or do you struggle with feeling overwhelmed?
If you struggle with the material, then find exactly where you get stuck.
