About
I have been a teacher in Kenner, Louisiana for 6 years now and absolutely love my job. My favorite subject to teach is Algebra 1 however this year I have had the opportunity to Geometry and I am loving that too! In my mind, learning math is equivalent to learning critical thinking and problem solving skills which are essential to success in our global market. Math should be a process of exploration, curiosity and inquiry rather than a set of steps and procedures. This is how we can empower young people!
With the way we teach and test math subjects today, it is important that our students are building conceptual understanding in additional to procedural fluency. I am a content leader for Jefferson Parish and the state of Louisiana so I have had an opporutnity to explore the way concepts are developed through the common core standards. I am experienced in teaching high school level courses and currently support teachers at my school as a Master Teacher. This experienced has deeped my knowledge of how student understanding is developed before highschool so I can identify gaps in understanding and remediate unfinished learning. I am also familiar with the Eureka Math curriculum.
Because I am now an instructional coach, I only get one class with students and that is the absolute best part of my day. I am excited to spend more time tutoring to get more time teaching students! I love watching my students engage with new ways of thinking and challenge themselves as they grapple with difficult concepts. It is a fun challenge for me to constantly find new ways of teaching and growing my students.
