About

I utilize my skills as an English teacher to provide a completely individualistic approach that takes where you currently are and aligns it with your English comprehension and writing goals.

I love working 1 on 1 or 1 on 2 with people and seeing their understanding of criticial thinking, English comprehension, and analytical writing grow! The lightbulb moments that occur when people undergo individual instruction is one of the reasons I became an English teacher in the first place, and I firmly believe that being able to reduce my focus to just one or two people allows these moments to occur more frequently.

Frequently asked questions

Whenever I work with a new student, the first thing I do is learn more about who they are, what their strengths are, and where their weaknesses lie. Then, I start wroking with the student in a way that uses their strengths and strong understandings to help fill the gaps in comprehension that make up their weaknesses.

I have:

-2 years of teaching in a classroom

-2 years of tutoring at a college

-Strong, comprehensive background of English writing and comprehension

Pricing varies depending on the student and the level/amount of tutoring they need.

I got started teaching because of my love for reading and my drive to further the critical thinking in the people around me. So often I see people struggle with comprehending complex texts or converting their understandings into writing, and I want to help people expand their understandings and become more capable communicators.

I have worked the entire spectrum from special needs to gifted students.

The most recent event that I am fond of is one in which I conducted a socractic seminar with my students. I think so fondly of this event because I was able to see my students engage in intellectual dialogues, observe the understandings that they had gathered from my instruction so far, and watch them challenege each others ideas at an academic level.

My biggest piece of advice would be to make sure that the teacher is willing to meet you where you are. Having a teacher that tries to teach above your head or below your comprehension level means they are making general assumptions and are not tailoring to your individual needs. In tutoring, especially, the individual, who you are and what you need, matters more than anything.

The questions I feel students should think through first are ones that are introspective such as:

"Why do I feel like I am struggling?"

"Am I willing to put my best effort to learn, even when it is 'not fun' or 'not interesting?'"

"What, specifically, do I want to get out of tutoring?"
