Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When it comes to math, I believe that participation is essential. Watching someone do a backflip 50 times does not make it any easier for you to do a backflip. Just like landing a backflip, understanding math takes trial and error, as well as time and patience for most people. I think that it is very important for the students to do math and not just watch math be done. Not only do I frequently open the floor for questions, but I also like to ask the students questions to keep them on their feet and engaged during sessions.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My passion for tutoring began in the math lab at my high school. I loved sharing my knowledge and helping others feel confident while doing math. While in college, I continued tutoring for the Department of Special Services and in the Tutoring Center's math lab on campus. I was the TA for calculus 3 and taught three college algebra courses, during my time in the Master's program at UL. I have also privately tutored K - college for the past 10 years.
