About this tutor

I like to get to know the whole person. To me, you are not just a student, but you are a person! A person with dreams, gifts, and aspirations, even if YOU don't see any yet. I will draw it out of you, so that you will see it for yourself. My desire is to not only help you improve in math, but in life, yourself, and your confidence when you face challenges.

I love people! That is what I enjoy about the work I do. Seeing people reach their potential, believe in themselves, and know that they are capable is what brings me GREAT JOY! It makes me extremely happy that I get to use my gifts to help people reach the calling they have on their life by God!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I usually try to get to know them a bit before we start. People tend to be more vocal and comfortable around individuals they are familiar to or that they feel understand them. It's one thing to know a material, but it's another thing knowing HOW to teach it and know HOW to connect with a student. I always want my students to know that I care and that THEY CAN DO THIS! Sometimes, it isn't the fact that the child/ teen is having difficulty with the material itself, but they are having difficulty within their own self. With encouragement and positive affirmation, I build them up and make them build themselves up too with verbal affirmations, regardless of their past performances in the subject. With their mindset changed towards approaching their work, it is easier for them to be taught and for me to show them just how smart THEY are. I always make thing engaging and understandable for others to catch on, so if they were stumped with a problem before, it will come easier to them to comprehend. If I am given the opportunity, I will help your student/ you see just how smart they really are! There is gold inside EVERY human being, and I love having the privilege of drawing that out, especially through the creative way of teaching math.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have tutored for over 10 years from the grades of elementary to college. I have been given the privilege to teach many different age levels, personalities, comprehension levels, temperaments (you name it) by helping teach at my parents GED school in Math, since I was in the 6th grade. I have always loved math and even helped teach a Math class at Louisiana Tech to some students after I graduated high school. In college, I tutored other college students in their math courses, and also tutored junior high and high school students in various subjects, including math. Currently, I work at Bethany Center for Mentorship, where I teach junior high and high school math, and help them understand that all of them are capable and smart to learn this subject! All you gotta do is believe in yourself, not give up, and work hard, especially when the problems seem tough!
