I have a Bachelor's of Science degree in Civil Engineering from LSU. I also have a pracitioneer's license in teaching high school Math from the State of Louisiana. Engineers are essentially problem solvers. Math is the language you need to speak to be a good problem solver. I feel like I am a patient tutor and problem solver who brings real world and classroom training to the table in a way that can help the student. I've always enjoyed helping people understand math and physics. Growing up I had several great math/physics teachers who spent time building my condfidence and I try to be that type of tutor/teacher for all my students.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
1. Get some idea through a short quiz/interview where they are at in their understanding of math or physics. If they need some review of lower material, then I would offer some review homework.
2. Then, working with the student, chart out a plan to achieve their goals for this particular course.
3. Once this course is laid out and agreed upon, then it just a matter of executing the plan.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As I mentioned, I have a B.S. in Civil Engineering. Also, I am only a few credits short of having a Bachelor's degree in Math - Secondary Education. The time I spent working as a tutor and student teacher to students in my hometown was extremely valuable and taught me to always be patient with students. When I finished my undergrad training, I finished an alternate ceritifacation program for Math - Secondary Education. This offered me some additional experience working with students.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My initial rate is $25/hr. I go up a little bit to $30/hr when I feel that the student has caught up to where the course is starting. The rate then, is always the same at $30.
How did you get started teaching?
I changed my major to Math - Secondary Ed about halfway through my undergrad degree.
What types of students have you worked with?
When I was a student tutor in the public school system in my hometown, most of the kids were behind on a lot of concepts so it was a lot more challenging. When I was a tutor for engineering students at LSU, many of the students were really strong students who challenged me as a tutor.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
One of my Statics tutoring students was a really hard working person. He always put in the maximum effort and handled the challenges that his professor through his way. I felt really proud of him for getting an 'A' in Statics when only a few students in his class did that well.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would say note when a tutor says they are patient and that they are a good teacher. Many intelligent people are horrible teachers and have no patience.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I would say think about how much review you need for this particular course. If you are aware going into a course that you may be behind, being able to point towards the areas you need help in can save the tutor a lot of time and help you get started a lot quicker.
