About
I have served for 15 years as a high school teacher (certified as “Highly Effective” consistently), nearly four years in a university writing center (professionally certified as a tutor), and five years teaching college composition. My logged tutoring hours in the past three years have exceeded 1300. I am certified to teach in both Kentucky and Michigan.
Because of my experience in grade levels seven through twelve and first-year college composition, my knowledge and practice provides my students with an excellent vertical alignment between middle school, high school, and college. They often return from college and tell me that they work that we did was exactly what thy needed.
I am amazed by the strength, intelligence, and motivations of my students. Working with the young people that I do, I know that our future is in good hands. That may sound a bit cheesy, but that is exactly why I love my work. My students are my motivation.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Working collaboratively makes the difference. I see myself as a skilled coach who focuses on my individual student's skills and motivations. One of the major benefits that I find in tutoring compared to the classroom, is that I get undivided attention with one student at a time so that I am able to design our work with the student's input in mind to acheive the most practical and efficent use of our time. I get as much satisfaction from my students' understanding and success as they do. Working one-on-one with my students allows me to find individualized ways to help them learn the material and develop those skills that build their confidence. Our tutoring sessions are positive and collaborative experiences. When they succeed, we both celebrate.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My degrees and certifications include:
-B. S in Education - Secondary and Elementary, English & Earth Science
-M. A. in English Language and Literature - Composition and Rhetoric
-M. A. in English Language and Literature - British Literature
-Advanced Placement Certification - AP English Language and Composition
-Strategic Instruction Model (SIM) coach.
-CRLA Tutor Certification
-TEFL Teacher of English as a Foreign Language
