Frequently asked questions
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am in my third year at the University of Kentucky, majoring in the field of special education. This means I have been admitted into the Teacher Education Program and have passed the first round of exams to become an educator in the state of Kentucky.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
While pay is flexible and reliant on location, needs, and many other factors, my typical charge is $15.00/hour. Don't let this scare you though! If you are interested, please reach out and I will work with you to find a rate within your budget.
How did you get started teaching?
I have a passion for education and a love for working with children of varying ages and ability levels. I particularly fell in love with special education in high school when I began working as a peer tutor for students with disabilities within my school. During this time, I also babysat which included homework assistance. In the last year, I have provided assistance particularly with virtual learning.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from ages 6-20. Some of these students have had disabilities including speech-language impairments, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Down Syndrome. I have also worked with students without disabilities.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Before talking to an educator about your needs, think through what you want in a tutor. This doesn't have to be about their education level or experience (though you should look at that too!), but about their character. Do you learn best on a rigid schedule or flourish with flexibility? Do you tend to do better with teachers who are more strict, or those who are more adaptable? You may not be able to choose your teachers in school, but you can choose tutors that meet your personality and educational preferences.
