About
I do all my tutoring by video over the computer / phone.
I was a substitute teacher of all high school classes except band.
I have even taught French and i have no experience in French.
I have many ways to help students learn to access their own potential.
i have also been trained as an OJI (on the job instructor) which certifies you can teach adults.
I have often thought that once you know the "why" something is done or the "how" something is done, it makes everything much easier to understand and solve if needed.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My first step would be to give the student an assessment quiz that I have designed in order to tell where to start with their tutoring.
I will give practice problems and quizzes. I always give lots of incouragement and recognition of a job well done.
If I tutor the client more than once a week, a weekly rate will be charged instead of a price per session.
I can teach psychology, history, all mathematics up to pre-calculus, because it has been a long time since I took calculus, English, Spanish, and others not mentioned here. Please feel free to ask any other questions about my profile or methods by contacting me thru here or at [email protected]
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have two Bachelors degrees, a Bachelors of Arts in History and a Bachelors of Science in Psychology.
I have been trained to teach adults (OJI - on the job instructor) which is a little different from teaching children but teaching is teaching and as long as you can find a common ground, any student can be taught.
I was a substitute teacher in the PendletoncCounty school system for one year. I taught all ages, K - 12, all subjects.
I have experience teaching the mentally challenged also. One of the main things that I taught to them were life skills such as counting change and handling finances.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
For elementary topics, most of the time, my rate is $10 to $20 per hour.
For middle school topics it depends on the topic but for the most part, middle school topics are charged at $20.00 per hour.
For high school subjects, most of the time I charge $30.00 per hour.
At time, if a student needs help for more than two days a week, I will give a discount on the price.
How did you get started teaching?
I wanted to do something when I was laid off from my seasonal job with the Internal Revenue Service.
I applied to be a substitute teeacher and was hired by the Pendleton County School District for all gradesl.
i'm teaching / tutoring from home now after retiring from my job with the IRS.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all students.
I have worked with the students that were being disciplined with "in school suspension called "alternative" schooling which was to separate them from the other students.
I have worked with students that have ADD ond my oldest daughter was also diagnosed as slightly ADD as a child. She was very upset when she received this diagnosis but when I explained to her that it just meant that she learned in a different way, she began to understand and graduated high school with A's and B's.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure you are honest with the tutor about where you are in the subject your are requesting help with.
Do not feel embarrassed about asking questions. There are NO stupid questions. You will not understand something if you do not ask questions.
If you are not satisfied with the answer or if you are still confused, please, please, please, do not feel embarrassed or ashamed to ask again or let the tutor know that you still do not understand.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
This is what the assignment is and I do not know where to start.
This is where I was told to start and this is the answer the teacher came up with but I have no idea how they got the answer they came up with.
I have no idea what they are wanting me to do.
Why? Why do we do it this way?
