About

I have worked as a peer tutor at The Study, the University of Kentucky's drop-in tutoring program for the last year. I am CRLA Level 1 certified and have been trained throughout the year to engage in the Socratic Method, tutoring through probing questions, which is a more effective way of learning. I have taken a variety of courses throughout high school and college, with experience specifically in statistics tutoring.

Spending the past year as a peer tutor at the University of Kentucky, I have become attached to those eureka moments and collaborating with other peers. Being part of a drop-in program, I have worked with a variety of students, some regulars throughout a semester and some for just one time. I've learned to adapt to work in person while being safe during the pandemic and even through online platforms. During the winter term at UK, I exclusively tutored online and was "Tutor of the Intercession" at The Study

Frequently asked questions

I like to let the new student lead the process. I want them to feel comfortable, so I'll get to know them, like their background and interests. But tutoring is different for each person, so I'll learn how each student works. Some may prefer working alone with occasional help and others like a more guided approach.

I'm a junior at the University of Kentucky double majoring in mathematical economics and psychology. I am a CRLA Level 1 certified tutor and was a statistics tutor at the University of Kentucky's drop-in peer tutoring program, which is called the Study.

I've worked with other college undergraduates at the University of Kentucky. I have experience tutoring peers.

All of my favorite moments of tutoring have come from personal conversations, like talking about coffee spots or TV shows. It leads to a relaxed atmosphere, where I'm just somebody helping you rather than someone assigned to teach you. A tutee, at the end of the semester, even gave me a gift card as a thank you despite the tutoring program at the university being free. It's become a memento of my time and work as a tutor.

I just want students to feel comfortable when talking to teachers about their needs. It may take some vulnerability to ask certain questions; it can often feel scary to ask teachers or professors. But I hope it is easier when working with a peer.
