About

I am committed to helping students learn and inprove by creating an individual plan for each client based on their personal learning style. I do not use a "one size fits all" approach. I have worked in colleges and universities for over thirty years, with students of all ages and backgrounds. I have an M.S. in Counseling and Human Development from Radford University and a B.A. in Humanities. I want to put my experience to work helping you succeed in your education!

My love of tutoring comes from helping people to realize that they can improve their learning skills and reach their educational goals no matter how big or how small.

Frequently asked questions

It is important to me to spend some time getting to know the student and letting them get to know me.

I then like to spend time learning about a students interests and abilitis in order to find a way to incorporate those interests into the process.

I break down the information to be learned into small, manageable bits to keep from feeling overwhelmed, and try to vary my methods when possible to keep the student's interest.

I have an M.S. in Counseling and Human Development from Radford University and a B.A. in Humanities from Virginia Wesleyan College.

I have thirty years experience working in colleges and universities.  A good portion of that time was spent overseeing tutor and academic support programs, including special needs accommodations.

I typically charge $25 an hour depending on how much preparation time is required.  A price will be agrred upon by both parties by the start of the tutoring sessions - no surprises.

I started working in education because I was a student who needed help.  Good teachers and tutors made all the difference in my life, and I wanted to be able to help students like myself in the same way.

I have worked mostly with high school and college students, but also some middleschool students.  I like to work with students from all backgrounds and have worked extensively with students with learning disabilities.

I worked with a student who couldn't pull a grade higher than a 60% on a history test.  He came to me for tutoring.  We worked to figure out what his learning style was determined that he was an auditory learner.  I tailored his tutoring sessions around auditory methods, and in five weeks he was making A's on his history tests.  When that student came to me he was planning to drop out of school because he didn't think he could ever finish.  That student is a college graduate now, and is looking at becoming a teacher himself.
