Hi!
My name is Allie and I have 2.5 years' experience as a 4th grade reading and writing teacher in Texas. I have experience in ESL, phonics, grammar, essay writing, reading strategies, and standardized testing. I was ranked 20 out of 200 teachers in my standardized reading scores in Texas for 2016. I am early childhood through 6th grade certified. I love teaching kids how to enjoy reading and writing and give them confidence. I am new to the area and not teaching at the moment but have all of my teaching materials to use with your kids! I have experience with Kindergarten through 4th grade.

I love kids and have been babysitting since I was 14 years old! It was just natural that I become a teacher. Getting kids excited about reading and writing puts a smile on my face, and I want to give them confidence that they can do anything they put their mind to!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
For a new student, I would start with looking at any previous work that may show me what they need help with. I would give the student a short pre-assessment if needed to see what skills I can best help them with to improve in the subject. For reading especially, getting to know the students likes and dislikes can help recommend good books to keep the interest in reading. Then, combining worksheets, games, and strategies for home and school will give the student tools for success.
I can also recommend computer programs your child can use at home that I have used in my classrooms to improve reading, writing, spelling, and math skills.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I revieved my bachelors degree in 2012, and I have completed a program called Texas Teachers to recieve my ESL and Generalist EC-6 certificate. I have over 100 hours in professional development in elementary reading and writing skills.

How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching in 2014 as a 4th grade ESL reading, writing, and social studies teacher in Houston, TX. I taught over 50 kids for 2 years with all different economic backgrounds. Due to my husband’s job, I substituted at my elementary school in late 2016 including all grades kindergarten through 4th before relocating to Kansas.
