Mark Boer's Math Tutoring
About
Hello! I have been teaching 6th, 7th and 8th grade math and Algebra for 11 years. I have had great success with all kinds of students from those that need extra help to those who need to be enriched. In my district I am considered one of the best in my field for my students success on state testing. I love to connect with my students on a personal level and connect what they are learningnin math to the worl around them. I am a married father of 3 who loves children.
Overall, I really enjoy the long lasting relationships I build with my students. I am still in contact with many former students through social media and still help them with math or other life experiences today. I love watching a student grow to understand math when they otherwise may not have.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I am open to whatever needs the family may have. Typically we will either meet at the public library or I am also available to tutor from the home. I feel that a one hour session is long enough and I usually don't like to tutor one child more than 2-3 times a week so that they are not overworked.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor's degree in Seconday Math Education from Purdue University. I also have attended many hours of professional development at the school I teach at involving best instructional practices.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
For a one hour session I typically charge $30 an hour but am willing to work with a family so that the experience is a positive one for all involved.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching in January 2007 right after I graduated college. I have been at the same school my entire teaching tenure. I wanted to be a teacher because I always loved school, loved children and also wanted to have the opportunity to enjoy time with my familu during the holidays and summer months.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all types of students. Mostly I have worked with low-income students of all races who are in general math classes or even special needs. However, at my school I am also responsible for teaching Algebra to the high-achieving students in the building.
