Henson Tutoring
About
Greetings! My name is Josiah Henson and I am a licensed Elementary Education teacher in the great state of Indiana. My licensure includes:
- Grades K-6 Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies
- Grades 6-8 Social Studies
I am currently a 2nd grade teacher within Blackford County Schools. I am CPR certified. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Taylor University's Elementary Education program in 2019.
I tutor in-house and travel.
As a tutor, I can focus on Reading or Math intervention, both, or a more focused approach on any Indiana State Standard.
It is my belief that the fastest way to mastering any topic is through 1-on-1 teaching, student differentiation, and meeting student needs where they are at.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first step in working with a new student is getting to know that student. What are the areas that need improvement? What are the students strengths and what does the student need to work on? How does the student learn best?
Once I know the student and understand what our educational focus should be on, I will move into finding applicable State standards to find a starting base. Then I will differentiate for the student how to best teach and guide the him/her to the intended learning outcomes.

I have a BS in Elementary Education from Taylor University. I am certified to teach grades K-6 in Indiana, as well as a certificate in Social Studies for grades 6-8.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Education is a world filled with amazing experiences. One such came recently when I hosted a last day of school celebration on Google Hangout to end the 2019-2020 school year. My second graders had a show and tell, got to see their friends one last time before summer, and even participated in a short scavenger hunt. It was a great way to end a otherwise hard school year, cut short by the Covid-19 pandemic.
