I-CINA-U Tutoring

About

At I-CINA-U Tutoring, we operate under the following assumptions:

—All people are inherently unique, valuable, and whole. This is true for everyone involved: students, tutors, teachers, parents, guardians, and everyone else.

—All people are naturally resourceful and capable. Each person brings to the table unique talents, strengths, and skills which they use to solve complex problems.

--Tutoring is meant to supplement good classroom habits. It won’t be effective unless students are actively taking notes, organizing learning material, studying, and completing homework.

--Everyone is accountable for their own success. Teachers, parents, and tutors are available to guide, help, and support, but students’ learning is ultimately their own responsibility.

I am a former high school math teacher. I taught Algebra I, Algebra II, and Business Math at a local public high school. I spent the four years prior earning my bachelor’s degree in Physics/Math Education from Taylor University. My degree required all the academic rigor of the mathematicians, engineers, and physicists and all compassion, empathy, and patience of the elementary teachers. I have a thorough understanding ranging from Algebra to Quantum Physics and beyond, and those skills are accompanied by the ability to create a humble, relational learning environment.

Before I was a teacher, I was a student. I remember clearly the hours I spent poring over physics textbooks during my university years and my late nights writing essays after high school basketball games and band concerts. But even before that, I had a great set of elementary teachers. They believed in me and pushed me toward the best version of myself I could be. I hold the firm conviction that education is the key to unlocking possibilities. Through education, students learn perseverance, work ethic, problem-solving, and self-confidence. The more insight, skills, and knowledge they gain, the more doors are opened. The more doors they open, the more freedom they have to sculpt the life they want for themselves. This conviction rings true in my life. My goal as a teacher is to help students unlock the gates to their fullest potential and a world of possibilities.
