About

I am licensed high school math teacher who uses tutoring to help students succeed. I will be starting my second year of teaching with EVSC and I couldn't be happier. I have been a math tutor all through college on campus and even tutor some of my own students when needed. I studied elementary education and I'm very familiar with how math is being taught in schools today.

Many of us, and I used to be one, have this preconceived notion about math, which makes us apprehensive and unconfident when taking classes. This pre-conceived notion is that somehow you are either a math person or you're not, and if you're not a math person, you're just never going to understand it. Well I used to think I wasn't a math person, and with that attitude I was right. I had to be open to learning. Once I got over this fear of math and fear of not understanding it, I couldn't get enough of it. I loved every math class I was in and even decided to add it onto my degree in college.

In my line of work I want to see every student succeed. I love to see my students understand concepts with which they've been struggling. I love working with students to find strategies that work best for them to get to that "aha" moment. Every student is different and not every strategy works the same with everybody. It's a great feeling of success for a child or student to finally understand a concept using a strategy that works well for them. It is the best thing in world.

So, whether you're high school student wanting to prepare for college entry exams, a college student struggling with your core algebra or reasoning class, or a parent who is lost on how to help their child because we have begun teaching math using different methods at the elementary level, I can help and would love to help and see you succeed.

Frequently asked questions

I am a college graduate. I majored in education and minutes in math. After graduating, I passed the tests needed to become a license math each in the state of Indiana. I currently teach math at the high school level. I never miss an opportunity to become a better teacher. I am a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and work to learn about Newstrategies to help students succeed in math.

I have worked with college students, elementary students, and students who really don't want anything to do with math. I work at the alternative high school in my district and while I love my job, it does come with it's difficulties. I have to constantly think of new innovative ways to help my students learn math, which has ultimately made me a better teacher and tutor.

Math is not an easy subject to teach. Sometimes people who are naturally God at math struggl to really help someone understand a topic. If your not getting something speak up. The most important thing is to say, "I have no clue how you got that number." If you don't the tutor may not even realize you didn't understand. Don't be afraid to say you don't ft it. That's why we are here.

Think about where you might be struggling in math. Do you struggle with the basics like fractions, multiplication, division etc? Maybe you have that down, intermediate math like Algebra is something you've always struggled working through. Or are you really only struggling to understand the new material presented to you? Never say you can't do it. Because I will tell you now if you tell yourself that all the time, you're right.
