Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to ask the student for what we are working on in advance so that we can clear up any questions and ensure we're on the same page as we begin.
During the first session, I'm not big on tests but I may stop the student at points with questions to gauge his/her current understanding of the subject. Then, I know whether we need to, for example, go back and review fractions, exponents, and square roots before we can proceed with difficult calculus or statistics problems.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have 6 years of tutoring experience now, a Project Management Professional (PMP certification), Bachelors in Computer Science from Case Western Reserv University, and a very high SAT score of 1450 out of 1600 that would have been higher had I been coached for the exam.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing varies depending on level and subject, presently $40/hr - $65/hr with other discounts available on Tangent Tutoring's facebook page
How did you get started teaching?
I began tutoring when a friend asked me to help him understand his Masters course project when his tutor was busy and I was underemployed during the Great Recession
What types of students have you worked with?
I usually work with Masters, undergraduate, and high school students, but I have tutored some younger students as well and I plan to hire tutors experienced working with various types of students.
I have also worked with many veterans and some professionals seeking PMP certifications.
