About
Are you looking for a certified teacher to help you understand your schoolwork? Do you need someone to explain things in a new way? Kristin is the tutor for you!
Kristin has been a certified teacher and tutor since 2002. She is licensed to teach elementary through middle school, and is a current 1st grade teacher. Additionally, she has experience teaching 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades.
Despite her specialty being teaching readers and writers, she is skilled at teaching all subjects. Her love of learning combined with tutoring students from kindergarten through college have allowed her to craft her skills at addressing each student's needs. If you would like a teacher who can understand your needs, Kristin is ready and waiting to help you!
I love teaching! Working with students to help them find success is the best part of my day. I enjoy working with students in and out of the classroom. Sometimes schoolwork can be tough. I love working with students to help them build skills they can use to make what was tough easy as pie!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
At the beginning of our first session, I will take a few minutes to chat and get to know you as a person and student. It's important to hear from you, so I will let you tell me what is tricky in school. If needed, I will conduct some assessments to find out what great things you already know and where I can help you grow. Then, we'll get down to business!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a certified teacher, licensed to teach elementary and middle school. My bachelor's and master's degress are from Butler University. I have taught elementary school since 2002 and have been tutoring students for just as long. The students I tutor have spanned grade levels from pre-K to sophmores in college.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard pricing is $40 for one hour of service.
How did you get started teaching?
How I got started teaching is a long story, too long for my profile. Needless to say, it was a calling that proved itself time and time again.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students who have general struggles with school subjects as well as students who just need steady support to keep them on the right side of success. In the classroom, I work with students who have been diagnosed with learning disabilites and students who have a hard time learning specific concepts in math, reading, and writing.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently, I had been working with a student in my class who struggles with reading and whose confidence is quite low. She volunteered to share with the class a book she had been reading. She did such an amazing job! I was proud of not only her reading ability but her confidence in herself, as well.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise students to look for teachers who can understand their needs and teach skills in a new way. Seeing new strategies or hearing lessons put a different way can make all the difference in the world.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
One of the questions I always ask my students is, "What is tricky for you?" I encourage them to be specific. The more specific a student can be describing their challenges or asking questions, the better a teacher can address their needs. Often a student will say, "I don't get it." There is usually a part or parts they DO get. If they can narrow what they don't understand, teachers can fix that part that is challenging.
