About
My name is Sarah and I can help your child close gaps in reading in a few months. I offer online lessons and also work with home-educated students.
I start off with an in depth assessment to find the gaps. At the heart of each session will be a levelled book to get the student reading, but with specialist support to improve their reading ability. We will work on different strategies to improve phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension all depending on their individual needs.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach reading for elementary aged readers from 4 years old and struggling teen readers. I can also teach writing up to 7 years old. I can also provide a phonics and reading program for homeschool children who are beginning to read. I teach using the US and UK curriculums.
What qualifications do you have?
I have a Master of Education (MEd) and also a PGDipED (PGCE Advanced) from Birmingham Universityin the UK. I also have a BA (Hons) in Education Studies from Exeter University. During my time of study, the education departments were ranked in the top 3 in the UK. I have also been in a systematic phonics training and have recently completed a Reading Interventionist course which helps tutors to close reading gaps quickly using online tools.
Where do you teach?
I teach only online. This means I am able to work with your child and help them to close gaps in learning regardless of location or if you move location. Children are often more at ease using a computer, than having someone come to their house or having to go somewhere unfamiliar to get support.
How will online tutoring work?
I use a video conferencing tool called Zoom to teach online lessons. This is similar to Skype, but gives me greater ability to share my screen and deliver high quality resources to my students. This includes appropriately levelled books and targeted activities.
- What can students expect from you?
If you are struggling to keep up with reading I have some different strategies to try without having to even leave the house. This means you can keep up with your friends reading and not have to keep leaving the classroom for extra interventions.
