About
We provide tutoring by certified teachers who excel in their teaching fields. Students attend the Sylvan Learning Center in Homewood a couple times a week and we see progress right away. We create a personalized curriculum for every student. Our whole goal is to provide a friendly, warm and caring environment for students to be motivated and to succeed.
We provide tutoring in math, reading, writing, Algebra, Geometry, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, ACT/SAT prep and study skills.
We love to work with students who want to do their best in school. Sometimes all a student needs is a little reinforcement of the skills taught in school to be successful. Other students may be behind and need to fill in some gaps that may have come into play. No matter what the individual student's needs might be, Sylvan can help by creating a personalized tutoring plan.
The reason I enjoy working at Sylvan is that we create a curriculum for each and every student. This is the best way that students learn. We go at their pace. If they can speed up and go faster, we speed things up. If they need to slow down and take their time with a skill, we will slow down until the student is successful.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Usually, a student comes to Sylvan for an assessment so that we can determine exactly what the student knows and what the student does not know. After the assessment, we will meet with mom and dad to determine a plan that is best for their student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
We have a staff of over 20 tutors who specialized in many different areas. Over 1/2 of us have our Masters Degree in Education. At this location, we have been open over 25.
There are never more than 3 students for each teacher. So, each student gets the attention needed to succeed.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Our tutoring sessions cost between $39 and $45 per hour. We have a number of different payment options to help parents fit tutoring into their budgets.
The hourly rate covers all materials and supplies, time with a certified teacher, progress monitoring, our Sylvan motivational system, communication with the student's classroom teacher, a parent portal for reviewing daily lessons and any further testing.

We work with students as young as 4 years of age through adult. We offer tutoring in reading, math, writing, study skills, homework support, Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and many other areas.
