I enjoy helping students of all levels of math! My goal is to help you understand math and feel comfortable with math.
I teach high school math. In the past I have taught developmental math at Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, IL and at the University of Illinois at Springfield. I was 2019 Tutor of the Year at Heartland Community College in Normal, IL.
I'll help you to understand what you need to know to be successful with math.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Whether we work in person or online, we'll start by identifying what goals you would like to accomplish during the session. Depending on your needs, I will help you with explanations, examples, helpful diagrams, and other resources.
We'll wrap up by briefly reviewing what was helpful and what you learned.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics /Teacher Education from the University of Illinois at Springfield.
I have been tutoring math since 1994. I have tutored math at Sylvan Learning Center, Heartland Community College in Normal, IL, and at Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, IL. I have taught developmental math at Lincoln Land Community College and at the University of Illinois at Springfield. I also teach high school math.

My rate is $35/hour for tutoring.
If I travel to you, then there will be travelling fee.
How did you get started teaching?
Because math was not aways easy for me, I can empathise with anyone who needs help! I began my professional career as a graphic designer, but I did understand math. I have aways wanted to share my understanding of math, especially with folks who are having a difficult time with math.
Because I enjoyed helping people learn math, I decided to switch careers. I went back to university and obtained a second bachelor's degree in Mathematics/Teacher Education.
What types of students have you worked with?
I enjoy working with students of all ages! I have worked with students from kindergarten to adults!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
The best compliment I ever received was from a third grade student who struggled with math. The student told me, "Thanks for helping me become a real mathematician." And, indeed, he had!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
It is important for a student to find a teacher who is patient and willing to explain things in a number of different ways. Look for a teacher who acknowledges your strengths, and who will celebrate your hard work and accomplishments.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
It is helpful if students can identify two or three concrete things that they need help with before having a session with a teacher.
Sometimes, however, students may feel so overwhelmed with math that they need a teacher's help to identify what they need help with. Having a teacher help in this way can help reduce anxiety towards math.
