About
Hello! My name is Jenn, and I've been a tutor for 20 years! I can tutor most subjects, and my specialty is English grammar. I enjoy teaching reading, writing, ESL, and phonics. I am comfortable with any age - preschool through adult - and I am currently offering in-person or virtual sessions, as well as phone sessions for ESL!
The biggest reward for me is seeing the lightbulb go on after we've been working on a concept for some time. Skills can be taught and practiced, but patience is essential for the brain to be ready for reading.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My first session is always free, and I take the time to have a conversation with a new student (and parent if applicable) during this time. I learn what their goals are and any previous methods they may have used. We work together to develop a flexible plan.
My style is generally simple. While it's important to keep younger students engaged with games and shorter sessions, I want the student (or mom or dad) to be able to easily replicate at home anything we've worked on.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've homeschooled my own kids since they were born; I've graduated three and am about to graduate another. I've also tutored other students in several capacities throughout the years. I am comfortable teaching most subjects, but my passion remains the English language, from first learning to read, to proofreading essays! I also love teaching music, especially the flute.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I am happy to offer the first evaluation session for free. I find most classes are successful as one-hour increments. Younger children gain more from frequent, half-hour sessions. I charge $60 per hour or $30 per half-hour. If you're looking for a simple proofread on your paper, I charge by the length of the paper and the level of writing (high school vs college, etc.)
