    Frequently asked questions

We will map out a schedule with tutoring dates and also work around the student's busy schedule. Usually, a good study schedule will involve 30-50 hours of preparation, most done by the student on their own. I meet with students weekly to review actual ACT  or SAT questions and review specific test strategies.

I have been tutoring 15+ years and have college teaching experience. I'm an active member of the American Mathematical Society and the National Council of Teachers of English

My rate for SAT and ACT tutoring is $60 per hour and I work in 90-minute sessions.

I have taught at Boston College and the University of Mississippi. About 10 years ago I began tutoring students 1-1 for the ACT and SAT exams. In addition I tutor all high school math courses from algebra to AP-Calculus

With individual tutoring, I've worked with students as far away as California. Most students realize that even though some colleges refer to themselves as "test optional", a large percentage of accepted students submitted very high standardized test scores along with their applicaiton.

Just because someone scored well themselves on the SAT or ACT doesn't mean that they can teach you to score well. Find someone who can communicate and well and teach you the material. Don't be lured by tutors who brag about their own scores. They may be smart, but that doesn't mean they can teach or communicate effectively.

Be realistic in your goals. Do you truly believe you can score a 35 or 1550 on your standardized test? Any tutor can only help so much. A great deal of preparation will be self-study and you will need to motivate yourself. Ask for a weekly schedule with daily assignments to keep you focused.

And work with someone who specializes in the ACT and SAT. Be wary of someone who says they can tutor for 15 different tests and 20 subjects
