Welcome to The Chicago Home Tutor where we use the most current research in education and psychology to provide your child with expert tutoring in the convenience of your home- in the city of Chicago and the suburbs.
After you call or email the Chicago Home Tutor, you will receive a free phone consultation during which you can share your goals and expectations and determine if the services will be a good fit. A tutor will interview you and your child to determine how often you would want services and what we can do to help your child want to come to tutoring (we can purchase rewards and materials specifically to engage and motivate your student).
If you decide to proceed, a mutually agreeable schedule and location will be arranged. A tutor will travel to your house or public library or other public place.
Tutoring Starts
Tutoring will begin according to the arranged schedule. We will use research-based (this means science has proven that they usually help) practices. If our first method does not work, we will try others until an effective program is discovered (see sample report for example of using different methods). Our tutors confidentially consult one another regarding student progress, so that your student can benefit from the expertise and support of the group. In order to obtain the maximum benefit, a minimum of 2-3 sessions per week is recommended by research literature (the number of sessions per week is flexible and will be determined based on individual desires). Tutoring sessions last one to two hours depending on your child’s age and academic needs. We use data in each session to monitor your student’s progress. The program can be modified as needed to maximize his or her enjoyment and successes.
After Tutoring
We can provide a report that details the exact dates of tutoring, the methods that were utilized during tutoring, our impressions of your child’s progress in the program, and graphs that illustrate the data taken in each session (please see sample report tab). This report can be useful for school personnel to understand what has worked well for your student. If you think your child may have a learning disability (LD) this report can be utilized by your child’s school-based multidisciplinary team as a component of their own evaluation. The great news is that in some cases consistent tutoring prevents children from needing special education! If you want to know more about the special education process, we can work with you to understand this as well.
