Sean McGowan Tutoring Services
About
Ever since I was a kid, I have loved learning and understanding the English Language. To this day, I continue to seek opportunities through my profession, and in my free time (I write poetry and fiction), to improve my skills as a writer. My background in community journalism includes working for two local newspapers as a reporter and editor. Right now, I am proofreading at an office in West Chicago and hope to use my skills to do marketing for nonprofits.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I want to get to know the student as a person -- including their interests, hobbies, activities, goals, academic achievements, study habits, etc. -- in order to understand their needs and how I can best serve them in their educational pursuits.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelor's degree in journalism from Illinois State University, which I used to write for a local newspaper in Waterloo, Illinois, before I returned to the Chicago area to pursue a career in marketing.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge by the hour for services.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would tell the student to look for someone whose educational background and professional experience relates to the subject matter with which he or she hopes to improve. If the student is looking for an English tutor, the best case scenario would include the tutor working in a profession in which good writing and clear communication are essential to the job. This would likely indicate that the tutor is constantly developing his craft in order to be at his best.
