About
I am an experienced, certified teacher and tutor with a Master's in Education and plenty of experience with children. I have years of classroom and tutoring exposure working with Elementary and Middle School students. I currently work at a middle school and provide online tutoring during after school hours. For elementary students, I conduct reading (phoinics, coding, fluency), writing, and math at the primary level. For my middle school children I provide language arts and mathetmatics. I also have a Bachelor's degree in History and am available to tutor middle school social studies.
I enjoy teaching students new concepts to enhance their academic performance. Not only does my teaching benefit my students, but it is also a rewarding feeling for me to be someone that a child looks up to as a mentor. I look forward in taking a learning journey with new and eager students!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Upon meeting a new student I would like to get to know him or her (interests, hobbies, favorite subjects). Next, I will be asking guardians about their child's school work from their teacher so I could look over it to gain insight on what the student has already mastered and what concepts need to still be learned (according to the appropriate grade level standards). After that, I would sit down with the student and most likely the guardian to discuss attainable goals during the duration of the tutoring.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor's degree in History from UIC. I then decided to go back to school for my Master's in Education. I am certified to teach grades kindergarten through ninth.
I have taught in primary grade levels all subjects including reading, writing, spelling, phonics, math, science, social studies, and science. I have also taught middle school language arts subjects. As for high school, I do have some experience substitute teaching day to day in various subjects.
For students who need that extra help, I created, performed and analyzed reading and writing interventions which is called Response to Intervention (RtI) for grades 1-4.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My pricing for the tutoring service depends on the content and duration of the tutoring. Pricing can be negotiated.
How did you get started teaching?
My jobs in high school and college were centered around working with children. I remember when I was working as an after school enrichment counselor for a kindergarten class at the YMCA. I spent a few months teaching a younge girl how to read. It felt amazing to see her expressions as she learned how to read basic words and then eventually sentences.
I realized I wanted to get back into the field after I achieved my Bachelor's. I then started the course work and did my required observation hours and student teaching experience in a first grade classroom in which I taught students how to read yet again! Upon graduation for my Master's, I was hired to do Response to Intervention (RtI) work with the primary grades. Meaning, I would pull out students to work with them one on one and conducted reading and writing intervention (for grades one through four). After that, I have had plenty of experience teaching in the classroom as a lead teacher, co teacher, assistant teacher and substitute. I have learned a lot from these various positions and am happy to teach any grade level!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have exposure with a wide range of students. I have worked with all grades and content areas through my substitute teaching experiences. In my previous position, I worked in a split level classroom with students in grades one and two. Currently, I work at a middle school and provide private tutoring to elementary and middle school children during after school hours. In all cases, I have worked with all different types of learning styles. Some kids prefer visuals to understand the content while others need to work hands on. All students are different learners and I believe I can accommodate a wide range of abilities and learning styles.
