Ms. Fritz: English Tutor

About

I am a high school English teacher with an Illinois teaching license. I am qualified to tutor students looking for help with both reading comprehension and writing skills. I have the most experience working with students ages 12-18; however, I also have experience tutoring college students and junior high students.

I have a passion for education and a great love for literature. My favorite thing about being a high school teacher is seeing the "lightbulb moment" when a student learns a new skill. I have always loved working as a tutor because it allows me to provide the extra support that many students need in order to be successful.

Frequently asked questions

I like to begin by identifying the student's goals. Are we working on a short term goal, such as writing an essay for class? Or are we working on a long term goal, such as preparing for the SAT writing portion or improving on general reading and writing skills. After identifying the student's goal, I like to ask the student about how they view themself as a learner. From there, we work together to achieve their goal(s).

I am a full time teacher at LaSalle Peru High School. I graduated from North Central College with a BA in English and Secondary Education. During college, I worked as a writing tutor for college students of al majors.

I have always wanted to be a teacher. I love helping others and I couldn't imagine a better way to do that than by sharing my love of literature with students of all ages.

I have mainly tutored high school and college students. I also have tutoring experience with junior high students. The students I work with have a wide range of mental capabilities, meaning that I have worked with students with IEPs/504s, struggling students, and gifted students.

Find someone that makes you feel comfortable and encourages you to learn through your mistakes.

Think about what you want to achieve. Let them know what methods of support have worked in the past. Do you work better 1:1? Do you need a challenge? Do you need someone to keep you on task or help you get organized? Remember that your teacher WANT to help you, so never be afraid to ask for extra help.
