Shaking The Trees Tutoring
About
Teaching has been my passion from a very young age. Today, as both a teacher and lifelong learner, I bring to the table a breadth of information and experience. I have been teaching since 2016 in the Chicago Charter and Public School systems and I currently teach High School English at Avero Cruz in Rogers Park.
I hold both a BA and an MA from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago in Communication, Media & Theater, received in 2012 and 2015, respectively. I have been tutoring outside of the school environment for several years. My tutoring capabilities include, but are not limited to, the following subjects: English (ELA, Comprehension, Reading, etc.), Social Studies, Humanities, Voice Acting, Stand Up Comedy, Public Speaking and Hebrew (spoken and written).

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first thing I do when taking on a new student is to have a frank discussion with them about what their expectations are. Every student is different and therefore require different methods of tutelage. By setting mutual goals and expections, we create a tangible and results-driven process unique to the learning needs of each individual.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold both a BA and an MA from Northeastern Illinois University. I have been performing stand-up comedy since 2006 and have performed over 1,000 times on stages all around America and the world. I have been teaching since 2016 and currently hold a roster of students whom I tutor n a regular basis.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My base rate is $50 per lesson. However, this is dependant both on frequency and the students' financial means. I will never turn down tutoring a student simply due to their own or their family's financial situation. It is my core belief that EVERYONE deserves the oppotunity to improve their education.
How did you get started teaching?
Teaching has always been a passion of mine. Growing up as the oldest of 6, it often fell to me to make sure my siblings remained up in their studies. I began my career journey teaching as soon as I completed my Masters.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all types of students, from K-12 and into college.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I never get tired of the joy I feel when a student answers a question before I can even ask it out loud.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Talk to the teacher and make sure that you will be able to work productively with them. Have goals and share them!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
It never hurts to ask. Try to ask yourself where you need to improve in your studies and say the answers out loud. If they ring true, they are worth bringing up.
