Northwestern Grad Tutoring
About
As a recent Northwestern University graduate, I'm equipped to give students personable and entertaining tutoring on a wide variety of subjects. Having taken many AP Exams, the PSAT and SAT, and ACT during my high school career, I'm comfortable with all types of standardized tests and tutoring for them, as well as any middle or high school level of math (including calculus), English/grammar/language arts, chemistry, history, and computer programming. I received 4's and 5's on all of my AP Exams and was a National Merit Scholar with my PSAT score. Additionally, I worked as a college application editor with CollegeVine and thus have extensive experience with essay writing and editing as well as general guidance for college applications.
As a game designer, I spent a lot of time thinking about what fun is! It's a great challenge to try and predict how people will be feeling when playing my games and how to best accomdate different strategies/thought processes of players.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First and foremost, I like to ask how a student feels they best learn. Is it through repitition, real life examples, hearing several different perspectives/explanations of the same concept/problem, or something else? There are countless ways of learning, so understanding what works best for a student is my priority. Then, I like to recognize and set goals alongside a student. What do they want to achieve? What do their parents want them to achieve? Their teachers? If there are differences in these goals, where do we think they're coming from? Then, I like to create a roadmap or timeline together that helps them feel empowered and capable.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Throughout my time at high school and at Northwestern, I've always focused on taking a wide variety of classes, and because of that I'm familiar with many approaches to both learning and teaching. My studies have helped me realize the overlap between so many subjects, and because of that I have a much more nuanced and flexible approach to teaching that is adaptable to students with all kinds of interests and strengths. Additionally, I was trained during my time at CollegeVine on how to best write and edit college essays, as well as general college applications, so I'm equipped to tutor beyond coursework as well.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $45 per hour for general courses and $70 per hour for PSAT/SAT/ACT/specific AP exam prep.
How did you get started teaching?
While I was in high school, I began tutoring my classmates while we had downtime during our theatre rehearsals. Ever since, I've always tutored on and off while being a student!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
You should make sure you can have fun or have interesting conversations with your teachers/tutors during set-up time or breaks! Feeling comfortable with whoever you're working with will allow you ask more questions and ensure you're actually learning the material.
