About

Tutoring sessions are highly interactive as I engage the student in thoughtful reasoning and analysis. I stretch the student's thinking. And make it enjoyable. I use techniques and methods honed over ten years teaching math to middle school and high school students.

Two aspects of learning are critical: understanding of underlying concepts and good study and test prep skills.

As a tutor, I combine these together to help my students increase understanding and knowledge, improve study habits and build confidence. I am adept at accommodating personal learning styles.

I specialize in high school Math subjects and ACT/SAT test prep.

Math can be confusing. Grammar and punctuation was long ago.

Preparing for a test can be stressful.

Homework can be frustrating.

I take an analytical approach to diagnose underlying deficiencies and remediate them while progressing with new material and building confidence. I am very insightful when it comes to understanding the student’s thought process; I then adapt the lesson to student needs.

My Test Prep Methodology - four pillars:

1) Become "test smart",

2) Dust away the "cobwebs",

3) Get plenty of experience and practice, and

4) Build confidence.

I keep parents informed by communicating frequently by email regarding session activity, homework activity, observations and recommendations.

If you agree that my approach is sound and will help your student be their very best, please reach out.

I have the "teacher gene" and love working with young people. I pride myself on doing a nice job of keeping things light and encouraging while making progress toward goals.

Ms. Reid was a dynamo! She helped my struggling student master the concepts she was missing to succeed. She also was very kind - something that kids who are feeling negative about themselves and their skills in math - need very much. She was flexible, was able to pace and adjust lesson plans to maximize results, and was a good partner in my daughters math journey. A+!

Peg didnt just teach our son content; she also taught him study skills that he can apply to other subject areas. She was very good about keeping us informed about how our son was doing.

We’ve known Ms Reid for a year now, we started when our daughter struggled as a freshman in high school, after a confusing period with hybrid classes during Covid. She started with a positive attitude, a calm demeanor and strong skills, assessed the situation and built the best strategy to work with my daughter . I’ve noticed that my kid’s confidence was boosted right away and her grades started going up steadily . We are very grateful to Mrs Peg for her dedication, talent, patience and knowledge. She’s the best teacher and we highly recommend her !

Peg helped our daughter with preparation for her ACT not only in identifying the best test to take - SAT vs ACT and improving her score, but in helping reduce test anxiety plus identifying learning opportunities and solutions that presented themselves during the tutoring. Peg was assertive in her instruction and tutoring while caring about our daughters life success in addition to her test scores. We highly recommend Peg if you son or daughter needs a professional tutor.

Peg is great! Since starting tutoring with Peg my sons geometry grade has gone from failing to passing with a B. She is very knowledgeable in multiple math concepts. She communicates well with the student and parent, takes any suggestions into consideration and does her best to accommodate her students.

Frequently asked questions

I like to start out with personal introductions to establish a rapport and get the student talking and comfortable.

I outline the ground rules: materials, cancellation policy, assignments, communication to parents, format of sessions, etc. and take questions.

I ask a lot of open-ended questions to probe for issues, attitude, strengths and weaknesses in subject matter, accommodations, study habits, personal organization and test-taking skills.

Parents are invited to join for these first ten minutes.

For math tutoring, we will start by reviewing a recent test, quiz or homework.  Test prep students take a practice test before the first meeting.  I use this exercise to assess current skill status and needs.

I encourage the student to take the lead and be responsible for his/her learning and subject matter understanding.

Then, we’re off and running.  And we have some fun while we’re at it.

I have a BS and an MS in Math Education and have taught for 10 years.   I've been tutoring test prep and math courses for 5 years.

Tuition is hourly.
Inspired by Algebra 2/Trig teacher in high school.
Honors, regular, double block. Failing students, straight A students. Middle school, high school, college students and adult learners. Students with poor/great study and homework habits. Students with lots of extracurricular, students with none. Students preparing for ACT/SAT/PSAT/GED/ASVAB exams. Students with an IEP or a 504 plan. Students with ADHD, auditory processing, speech delay, spatial reasoning, PTSD, etc. challenges.
I recently helped a student improve his grade from an F to a C in 3 weeks. He is now working on raising it to a B. He has improved his study habits and test performance. His confidence has soared and his mom and I just agreed to pare back to one session per week.
Find someone who knows how to teach, not one who is just really good at math.

I ask a lot of open-ended questions to probe for issues, attitude, strengths and weaknesses in subject matter, accommodations, study habits, personal organization and test-taking skills.
