About
I am a 2008 graduate of Chicago-Kent College of Law and currently practice law part-time for a boutique corporate law firm, but after my two of my children were diagnosed with dyslexia I pursued my Orton-Gillingham certification through the Children's Dyslexia Center. I am a (a) Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist (CERI, the International Dyslexia Association's certifying body), (b) Certified Dyslexia Practitioner (IMSLEC), and (c) Certified Academic Language Practitioner (ALTA). I continue to tutor at the Children's Dyslexia Center and I am pursuing my therapy level certification.
Since two of my own children are dyslexic I wanted to build a practice that focused on the strengths and passions of my students, not just their weaknesses. Each individualized lesson is designed to build a student’s confidence and self-esteem while also teaching them the skills they need to become fluent readers.
I also believe in providing knowledge and resources for parents so they can cultivate their child’s unique learning style and be the best advocates for them.

Giving students more confidence and watching them become more fluent readers and spellers. Helping a child learn to read can truly impact their lives.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I provide a free initial assessment so I can understand where the student's level is and where in my scope and sequence I need to start.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a law degreee and still practice law, but I have found that I am truly passionate and love teaching students the skills they need to become fluent readers.
My Orton-Gillingham training required over 100 supervised practicum hours and 60 hours of coursework. I continue to tutor at the Children's Dyslexia Center and I am working on the next level of training that requires another 100 hour practicum and outside coursework.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $80 an hour for in-person tutoring and $60 an hour for online Zoom tutoring, billed monthly.
If you purchase a 20-session bundle up front, you will receive a 5% discount on the total fee.
· 24-hour advance notice is required to cancel a session. You may request a make-up session within those 24 hours, which must be made up within one month of the missed session, otherwise the missed session will be charged at 30% the hourly rate.
· Cancellations made less than 24 hours before your child’s scheduled session will be charged at 50% the hourly rate.
· Cancellations made less than 3 hours before your student’s scheduled session, or a NO SHOW, will be charged at 100% of the hourly rate.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching when I began my training in 2018.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from kindergarten to 9th grade.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
If a student is truly dyslexic, they need a certified practitioner, not just any tutor will do.
Many students struggle with reading that are not dyslexic, but the Orton-Gillingham method of systematic, structured, and explicit teaching has proven effective for any student, but especially those with learning differences.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What goals would you like to achieve, what is the time frame for achieving those goals, and how will the tutor help the student to get there.
