Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I begin by talking to the student, either in-person, phone call, or video conference platform/Zoom about their needs. I will also assess their skills to determine a starting point.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have held a Florida Professional Educators License for over 20 years for Grades 1-6, Middle School math, and Business Education at the secondary level.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$40 per hour is stanard rate. I'm open to working with a student if longer sessions are necessary.
How did you get started teaching?
I wanted to do something important and I can't think of anything more important that education.
What types of students have you worked with?
The youngest student was in 3rd grade. I have mostly worked with high school students and adults preparing for GED exams.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Attending graduation of a learner that I tutored for algebra.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be sure you are able to communicate with the tutor in an authentic way.
If you are able to describe how you learn best i.e. auditory or visually or using pictures, that will help the tutor design lessons to use those strengths.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Learners should be able to talk about and describe their strengths and the things that are not strengths with the tutor.
