About
My tutoring practice is based in setting goals, building rapport, and asking questions. I have worked as a tutor all over the city of Chicago with students ranging from 4th to 12th grade. I have been trained by two different Chicago-based test prep companies. I specialize in the ACT and SAT, various high school entrance exams (ISEE, HSPT, MAP testing), math through BC calculus, Spanish, grammar, and writing. I also have experience with writing curriculum and training other tutors for ACT and SAT test preparation. I enjoy working as a volunteer tutor regularly at 826Chi, which usually involves homework help and creative writing guidance.
I love that one-on-one tutoring lets me focus my teaching on building a relationship with one student at a time. The classroom environment is a beautiful place to learn, but it is also a difficult place to meet every student's needs at once. I find that when I am tutoring, my work can be entirely about serving my student, whereas when I am teaching in a classroom, my work has much more to do with who I am and what I have planned than who my students are or how they are doing on a given day.
