Tutoring With Tara
About
I am currently a college student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I beleive that as a tutor I am able to understand how the student is feeling during the session. I was previously in their position and I remember how it felt during those sessions and what did or didn't work. Regardless of the student's background or knowledge I work hard to make them feel comfortable talking to me and voicing their concerns.
I love seeing students improve with my help, regardless of whether it was a one time session or a repeat student. My favorite this is showing them little tips and tricks to help them advance their skills and be effecient.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When introduced to a new student I first spend some time getting to know them and insuring that they feel comfortable with me. When a student feels comfortable with a tutor, they are more willing to ask questions they may feel uncomfortable or embarrassed to ask. I also feel it is important to establish how a student feels about the tutoring session. Some students feel frustrated they have to waste time with me instead of friends. Helping them understand that the more willing they are to work the quicker it ends.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Throughout my school years I have gained experience in a variety of things that range from scuba diving (receiving a license at 13), being fluent in Balkan languages (native speaker), competing on a speech team (competed for 3 years and went to sectionals), and even learning Tae Kwon Do (from age 5 to around 14 and received black belt). Though I don't have any offical certificates or degrees I have the knowledge and experience that allows me to relate and teach a student in a simpler manner.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
The price is dependent on travel costs (if applicable), topic choice (some may be more physical or need deeper knowledge), and the time spent tutoring.
How did you get started teaching?
I actually started with a program at my old high school that allowed me to visit the local middle school and help out during class. Now I work as a tutor when I am able to and predominantly work online.
