I love, love, love tutoring and seeing students overcome their hang ups with math. I have been doing online tutoring for about 10 years (8 years in Chicago, 2 years in Utah). I do my best to identify the best methodology and approach on how to teach concepts to my students. I personalize my teaching style based on these observation and I utilize repetitive examples that gradually scales in difficulty to challenge my students. My hope is for them to not only catch up with school, but to keep up, and stay ahead especially in Math. I have a lot of energy and very enthusiastic on what I do. What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I generally chat with them one on one for about 15-30 minutes and I also talk to their parents for about the same time so I can assess what I can do to help and maximize my effectiveness. Then I give some math problems just below their grade level, then problems in their grade level, then finally problems just above their grade level to see where they're at.
