About
I’ve helped students learn for more than 25 years. My academic credentials include two masters degrees in education and a doctoral degree in education. I have taught at the university level and grades K-12. I hold a Professional Educator License in Illinois that expires 6/30/2023. I’m certified to teach K-12, bilingual (Spanish), ESL, English, Math, Social Studies. I currently support two public school districts as a K-5 substitute and bilingual coach. You can find me on Linked In as JoelMonty. Google Joel Robert Montgomery for more information—though not all of it will be mine.
I enjoy watching students experience “aha!” Moments when they “catch on” to something they were missing when learning to do something new for them.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Speak to parents by telephone, then meet student and parents in their home to determine learning goals and strategy and to set-up both tutoring and practice schedule. Students can provide some work by email between tutoring sessions.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Already provided in my profile. I’ve helped students learn for more than 25 years—in class and out of class. I have both academic credentials and practical experience to support me in my work.
