Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I introduce myself to the student, giving each student my background and success. It is important to get to know each student and his/her needs in several aspects. I give them my full attention and focus on the concepts/goals that we decide on together.
Goals are created together and continuity is important.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a B.A. in mathematics and an M.A. in Education. I have been teaching for more than 20 years, and I love tutoring. I also have an active CA Math Teaching Credential.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
It depends on the mileage, but I do not mind driving. Hopefully, the rate would be between $15/hr and $25/hour.
How did you get started teaching?
After college, the only thing that I wanted to do was to share my experience with others. I also believe that every student is capable of learning all levels of math, regardless of his/her background.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with advanced students who want to learn ahead, students who have learning disabilities, students with low-income families, and students who want help with current math skills.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
When I was teaching, at least 1 student has had difficulty with the concepts being taught. He was getting very low grades and seemed to just give up.
I talked to him and decided that in order to achieve success, he moved to the front row in the classroom and his parent would bring him to school 1/2 hour before school once or twice a week or more if needed.
This was very successful, and he began to earn higher grades, increase his self-esteem, and feel better about himself.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Choose a tutor who has several successful experience(s), who truly enjoy their work, and who want to help others.
