At that time, I returned to college and got my degree in special education. I co-taught (with a teacher who majored in math) for 16 years before I retired. We would alternate teaching while the other teacher would assist students who needed more individual assistance. It is such a joy to see the lightbulb go on in a student’s head when he or she has made the connection with all of the numbers and the rules involved with math.
