About

As a tutor who is still in school I am able to more easily relate to students and see things from their perspective. This helps me to work with them to figure out the ways that they learn the best.

I enjoy being able to make a personal connection with someone in a one on one setting. It is so much different than a typical classroom where a teacher has to worry about making sure that everyone is getting the attention they need. I am able to totally focus on doing what will help one person the most.

Frequently asked questions

Typically the first time I meet with a studnet I will spend a bit of time getting to know their situation (what year they are, what they are studying, why they are in the class they are seeking help in) to be able to set up a more personalized learning experience for them.

I was a private tutor through the University of Iowa tutoring services for 2 years while I completed my B.S. degrees in Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science. I am beginning a Mathematics PhD program with an emphasis on Probability and Statistics in August.

I typically do 1 hour long tutoring sessions and charge $20 per session. If you want to meet for longer/shorter than that I can make those adjustments no problem.

I got started teaching during my undergraduate years as a part time job and have since begun tutoring full time while waiting to start my PhD courses in the fall.

I have worked mostly with college students taking courses in Business, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, and Engineering. I also have a bit of experience teaching older high school students in a variety of courses and ACT/SAT prep as well. I also have some experience working with studnets with learning disabilities and can be flexible and make accomedations to assist those studnets in any way.

Totally not about anything relevant to teaching, but...

My girlfriend and brother (who are living with me through this crazy quarantine time) just recently found an amazing fresh doughnut place that we now order from every Saturday morning.

You want to find a teacher/tutor that is not going to just do all of the work for you. The best way [in my opinion] to learn these highly logical fields of study is through practice and example. This means that you as the studnet need to be actually doing exercises and not just listening to a teacher talk.

Their starting point and goals for the course(s) that they are desiring help in. Are you already confident in some of the material or totally new to it entirely? Are you just needing to squeek past this one tricky section? Do you need to just get a baseline knowledge of the subject? Are you hoping to build a strong foundation to build on in later classes?

These all can drastically effect how tutoring sessions should be structured.
