Multi-Subject Tutoring
About
My name is Avery and I am currently a graduate accounting student at Drake University. I recently earned my bachelor's degree where I graduated with summa cum laude honors and was named Drake University's accounting student of the year. Though my degrees are in accounting, I have foundational knowledge in many areas and have the ability to tutor students in math, reading, writing, and more.
I really enjoy the problem solving aspect of my work! I feel like I am solving a "puzzle" in each math or accounting problem.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to start by getting to know my new student! Above all, I want to make sure that I am a good fit for them as a tutor. I want to get to know my students and give them the opportunity to get comfortable with me before the "real tutoring" starts. I would also like to gain insight to their educational background. For example, I would like to get to know in which areas they are confident in and in which areas we need to focus more time. How students prefer to learn is also important for me to know. I want to make sure each tutoring relationship is as personalized as possible for the new student to get the most out of the session.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelor's degree in accounting and am currently working on my master's of accounting. This is a math-based major and I have taken math classes as advanced as Calculus 2. I have experience tutoring in math courses ranging from elementary to high school level and have also tutored in accounting.
Beyond typical tutoring, I am also a volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters. With this, I have mentored a local elementary student on a weekly basis. In these sessions, I have helped her with homework and have also been a "big sister" to her and helped her work on classroom and social skills.
